The scientific activity of the laboratory involves the development of the supramolecular systems based on the photosensitive organic and inorganic elements. The researchers of our laboratory design novel and original photosensitive ligands (styryl dyes, spironaphtoxazanes, naphtopyranes, naphtalimydes) and analyse the formation of supramolecular assembleys in the presence of metal cations and organic molecules (organic salts of ammonium, carboxylic and aminoacids). Our systems behave as optical sensors, photoswitchable complexones and exhibit the capability of charge-, electron- and energy transfer. These properties make them promising for the developing the materials for organic photonics. One of the newest and interesting direction of our research is the design and study of molecular machines.

The main work within the lab involves

Development of new fluorescent crown ethers as optical complexons for metal cations, organic molecules and DNA. Such compounds exhibit high selectivity towards analytes and significant shifts of absorption and/or fluorescence bands upon complex formation. Among the potential applications of these systems are optical sensors for cation detection in industry and fluorescent reagents in biochemistry.

Development of new photochromic systems for application in photonic and data recording/storage devices.

Development of supramolecular devices able to transform the absorbed light energy into process ofcharge-, electron- and energy transfer. Such systems are promising compounds for application in conductive materials, solar batteries and photovoltaic devices.
